Fiona Jackson workshop

Last Tuesday I had the opportunity to do a workshop with Fiona Jackson. Oh what a lovely day we had and a great teacher. I chose to have a kit and everything was in the kit. Right down to the threads freezer paper and pen and pencil. All I had to do was take the sewing machine and general sewing items and turn up. How easy is that?

Here are a few of Fiona's art pieces. I was blown away with her work.

I decided to do the Strelitzia above in the class. I still have a lot of machine quilting to do on the piece. I need more practice to do so many straight lines.lol

I have just written a class for this felted knitting bag for Learningfa. A yahoo group I teach on based in Canada. It was a lot of fun and nice to get my felting machine out and use again.

MELBOURNE TRIP

Hi I am back home after a 10 day break in Melbourne. I caught up with friends I had not seen for 9, 7 and 4  years. I stayed with my Internet friend of 12 years Pattie and her family. We have kept in contact all these years and have visited each other before. We had a lovely time and even walked Hanging Rock.

My other long time Internet friend Susan came over from Adelaide to spent 3 days in the Motel with me in the city. Sue won at the Casino two nights running. We also did a bit of shopping in the city and markets.
Del Sue and Laila
Deb and Sue  I met at a conference at the Gold Coast 4 years ago. Deb took me shopping to her favourite shops. New bag dress and boots from this trip.

Neroli another art quilter who I met on the net about 7 years ago. Neroli and I shared some ideas before heading out for a meal and the sites of St Kilda. OH Chocolate heaven at one place. We never stopped chatting from the minute we met till we parted.

I also met a group of girls from a forum at the Corner Hotel for lunch. Laila another 12 year Internet friend came along.  I had the best pizza I have every had in my life. Crisp thin base and heaps of meat on top.

Pattie Laila Sue and myself met 12 years ago on a forum and met in person at a get together in Melbourne 9 years ago and have always kept in contact.

Del I did it at Hanging Rock.

I just can't tell you what a wonderful feeling it was to be with all these people and hope we get the chance to do it again.

Mountain Quilters Show

We had a fantastic two days at the Mountain Quilters Show. Margaret Margot and myself were in charge of the club shop and with the help of Paia and Cath had a fantastic two day. Plenty of laughs and sales of course.
The whole show was wonderful and well supported. The proceeds of the raffle quilt will go the the Guide Dogs this year.

Margot made this 60's style swing jacket. It fits me perfectly. I wonder if she will give it to me.lol I don't think so as it also fits her perfectly.

Raffled quilt.

Michelle from Keil Mountain Colours. One of the 12 traders who attended on the day.

Bernice with her beautiful soaps and lotions with one of her mother's (Robyn Mc Hardie Sunshine Quilts) quilted quilts behind.

Some of our girls having fun.

Margaret's beautiful old sewing machine. She would like to sell this and it is in perfect condition.
Contact me if you are interested for her number.
As you can see we had a great time and looking forward to the next one in 2 years time.

Looking for a Mate and Sooty

Looking for a Mate is the title of this quilt. It was inspired in a class help by Bernadine Hine.

Sooty was my challenge for Out of Ashes for the Challenging Ourselves group.

Mother's Day

I have just made my mother this little glasses case for Mothers Day.
It is a latch hook base with strips of material and wool threaded through the holes. I used felt for the inside.
It is beautiful weather up here on the Sunshine Coast. I love this time of the year.
Yesterday I went to the beach for a few hours and walked then came back to the car and read for a while. The sun seems to get right into your bones when it is not burning hot. It makes me sleepy so then I have a good nights sleep.

I took a group of people to our lovely restaurant in Glenview last week.
I wish I would have taken a picture of the meals as they look and tasted so good.
Here is a look at the setting and I would recommend you go check it out.
Lovely atmosphere and food. I could sit for hours in the setting.
They have catered for so much. A small children enclosed area, an older children area with computer
games, smoker and pet area. NOW that is fantastic to see.

Some of the resort is still being built.

This is what they will eventually cater for

Corporate Gatherings

Breakfast/Luncheon Meetings

Training/Education Seminars

Cocktail parties

Family Events

Intimate Weddings

Alfresco Dining

High Teas

Tropical Pool/Spa

Pet Area/Smoking Area

Art Mural display

Have a great day

Hi All

My latest challenge for ChallengingOurSelves Group
This is my Beauty from Ashes and I called him SOOTY. He is done on a piece of my sun dyed fabric. I think he looks a bit scared and just running out of a fire. I am still to put on his whiskers and do the edging. I am not sure if I will just bind it or add a black boarder and then do a scroll around the edge. I will post whatever I decide to do.

Great weekend away with the Palmwoods Girls

Hi All
I had a great weekend away on retreat with the Palmwoods ladies. I had a class in quilling and braiding. I loved the quilling but the braiding will take a little practice to get right.

Today Karyll and Alison at Palmwoods taught us how to make wool silk flowers.
Again I love this and so here is a picture. I did the red one in class and came home and made 5 more.

I AM BACK

After 7 months of no blog posting I am ready to post again.
I would like you have a look at a facebook page I set up last night and click on like it. I am needing some ticks.

http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Mooloolah-Valley-Originals/209972405714112

To much has happened in this time to write about so I will just start posting again as usual.Motivation has been hard to find during some of this time but I was a way a lot of the time as well. It is good to be home now but will be off again in a couple of months.
We spent a week with our daughter and family on Fraser Island a few weeks ago and had a wonder time. The grandchildren are growing so fast but so lovely to be with.
.
The west side of the island was clean. We fished here two days with perfect weather

This is one of the quilts I made end of last year for a black and white challenge.
I attended a day with Pauline Rodges. This is one of her quilts that I loved. It is done with fabric strips cut on bias and just looks so different using the striped fabric and a black strip down the centre of the binding .
I am back as assistant workshop coordinator at one of the quilting groups I belong to.
This is one of a set of 4 quilts I am working on for our quilt show. The cat is not my design but I love it so decided to do her/him on a piece of my sun dyed fabric.
