What do think about this strawberry? The size of a bread and butter plate. We do grow them big in Queensland. It actually looked like a flower. We were at Gowinta in Beerwah celebrating Lorraine's birthday.

We are not long back from a trip to Townsville to visit our children. Well the grandchildren have grown and are so beautiful. Here we have Lily making biscuits with me and Jack working at his mothers ipad. I can not believe what a 3 year 3 months child can do on this machine. I can't keep up with him.

Their big 75k dog. Just as well he is so quiet and loving with the children.

Magnetic Island

Magnetic Island

While in Townsville last month the group I belong to up there (Townsville Fibre and Fabrics) took a trip to the Island at the invitation of the Maggie Island ladies.

What a treat I was in for. Meeting up with the girls at barge in the morning then onto the island for a lovely morning tea and lunch supplied by the Maggie Island Girls at the Bowls Club.

Of course there was a lovely show and tell and I took heaps of pictures.

The one below is made to look like a book stand but it was only about 10 x 12".

Ann the happy lady won the lucky spot under her chair.

I loved this post card of the dog. Reminded me of mine.

I feel in love with these scarfs. Cast on 5 stitches and away you go. I am yet to find the wool. Apparently Lincraft has it but it goes very fast. I wonder why? The bag is made out of a tie. It looked great.

I was amazed at this rock formation and somewhere alone the line I may make a quilt with this in mind.

Black and White quilt and mat

A couple of years ago I participated in a fat quarter swap. I chose black and white but had no idea what I would do with the fat quater's until I saw Margot's quilt in this design. I loved the design and right away knew what I was doing with my black and white fat quarters. I also chose a red back background with small red cherries with green stems to give a splash of colour to the quilt.

I also made this little centre mat to match the table in the room.

Gelatin plate

Today I had heaps of fun in a Gelatin plate class with Michelle at Palmwoods.

I had been wanting to try this technique out for ages but never got around to it.

It is so easy.

Recipe for the plate is 4 tablespoons gelatin and mix with 1 cup of boiling water to dissolve. Add 1 cup of cold water and pour into an ice cream container or similar and place in the fridge to set.

Unmold and place some fabric paint on top ( you can use medium) and push it around to cover with the back of a plastic spoon.

Now you can put a stencil on top and paper over a couple of time to take the excess paint off. You can use this paper to make cards later.

Put your fabric on top the plate and light rub to transfer the paint. You will get a few off the one rubbing and you can also use the stencil by putting them on the fabric a few times. Each time you will get a lighter design but still lovely.

I just love how this top turned out. I have had many comments on it.

I make the fabric from speciality wools. It is constructed on washaway and then gridded and stippled. I am wanting to make one for my granddaughter. I thinks she will just love being like Nana.

I have a few things to show you but will post one a day so not to over load you with ideas.

It has been a while since I posted but hope to update more in the future.

Charity quilt

We had a lovely day the other day when we donated two quilts to a deserving lady. We enjoyed making this quilt and it was extra special to give it to someone so appreciative.

There are 12 of us in the group the Jelly Rolls but a few could not make it on the day.

These are two quilts that I made from panels. The other one does not seem to want to load.

Will try again tomorrow.

You can make quite a large quilt from a small panel by cutting and adding strips to each small section.

At last I can now add the third one. This one I have not cut the section out just added the flying geese to the sides. I am enjoying teaching what you can do with a panel. Who wants another for the wall when you can have one for the bed.

Margot went to a retreat in the hills for 3 days and the I had 9 days at her home where we sewed and sewed.

We had done some nice work but I have to up load the pictures yet.

Off to unpack the car now but later will work on the computer.

Frilly Lizard

I have just posted my challenge for Challenging Ourselves. I am very pleased with my quilt and want to show you all. I have called it Frilly.

The fabric for the Lizard was hand painted by me. I then made the lizard by cutting out the shapes and thread painting in the body and legs. I then set him on a rock and made the 3D frilly and face. I appliqued and machine embroidered in the leaves and grass before adding some quilting lines.

I actually made two but as the pallet was Orange Blue and Purple I thought that the Celtic one did not have enough of the purple. I still think it turned out nicely.

What I have been doing.

I finished a quilt for my husband for his birthday. The back ground has all fishing things on the fabric so he liked it. Actually so do I and it looks nice on our dining room table. I don't think I would get away with that one.

I have been busy sewing little dresses for African Children. A friend goes over each year to work with the children for 2 weeks and I decided to make the dresses as she was telling me they have nothing. Margot helped me sew one day and we got 18 made. I now have 30 plus another 3 a friend made to go with ours.

Professor David Green - Mixed Media

I listened to a talk by David Green today at Palmwoods. He was very interesting and I was amazed by his work on canvas and then stitched. I talked to him in length and then asked him if he would look at one of my pieces (Elements) He was so good to tell me about how I could make the piece work together a little more. So now I am going to add to the piece. I hope to have it posted in the next week.

I asked if he would come to Mountain Quilters and talk and he said yes. I am just delighted that we have someone like him here on the coast that is so interested in sharing his work and his time with us.

Janine's Quilt and Prof. David Green

This is a quilt one of our groups made for a lady that lost her husband. It is made using his shirts. The middle is an embroided cartoon picture of her husband and the embroideries are of things he liked. The top picture was the band he was a member of. I designed the quilt.

Challenge Favourate Places

This is the piece I did the our challenge in Challenging Ourselves.

There are 20 of us the try and do the challenge each 2 months.

Favourite Places.
I thought and thought what I would do for this challenge. I had different things going on in my mind and could not decide. A couple of weeks ago it all came to me. Favourite Places well my favourite places are my home, the land, dam and gardens. So that is what I did.

It is looking from the road up over the dam to our place. I have not quite got the proportions of the house to the garages right but it is close enough.

First I used the confetti method of cutting up lots of fabric into small pieces of the colour I needed. Blues for the sky and Greens for the hills and randomly quilted them down.

I then appliqué the house onto thick tearaway. It was then stitched to the background.

The gardens were all thread painted on to thick tearaway before stitching to the background.

The road was appliqued on to the background.

I then thread painting the palm trees on to the piece.

Update to let you know

Most of you would be aware I live in South East Queensland where the flooding is an absolute disaster.
To the lovely people that have emailed me with their concerns we are OK.
The unrelenting rain dropped 34inches on our town in two days. We were cut off in our town for 3 days but when the tide fell we could get out but had to be back before it rose again. Our local river is governed by the tides.
A lot of towns in the north, west, Brisbane, Ipswich and the Lockey Valley are in a total mess. A lot of the homes are under water with only the roofs showing. Something like 20,000 plus.
Major flooding of the main roads in the state. The main highway in the state is cut in a number of places.

Teaching and a surprise

For the past two years I have taught a group of ladies in GinGin . This year just before Christmas they sent me this wonderful card that they made to thank me. They also included a voucher for Brian's at Kawana. Yes I did have fun choosing fabric to use later in the year.

The card - they all made a litte photo of their quilt an then attatched it to the lovely card that Ruth had made. I believe it is her flowering tree on the front.

I was so touched by this.

Christmas Day was at our home this year. It has been many years since we hosted the day as we would spend the day with my sick father at the unit his wife would have at the beach.

It was lovely and everyone enjoyed it so much they voted to come back next year.

I did go all out with gifts for everyone and then I had draws with gifts through out the day. We also had a Kris Kringle and it was so much fun. It went on for 3/4 of an hour. Some did not want to part with their presents.lol They decided to do that again next year as well.

So much food we did not even get to the coffee and little treats. Even the desserts were hardly eaten. Roast potatoes and veg with the hot meats and gravy were the choice of the day with a lot going back for seconds. Still there was food for people to take home and I have been giving sweets to visitors to take home the lasts days.

I guess it is just about time to go back to stitching

EMMA'S TREE

These tree's are being made all over the world.

Miriam my friend in Ireland lost her daughter Emma and designed this tree just before she passed away.

"Emma, my daughter died from Breast Cancer in 2005. She was only 29
years old and left two babies.....Anna was 26 months old and Kate was only
14 months."

The tree is being made all over the world at Christmas time. It is lovely that she can be remembered this way.

It's just about Christmas

Here we are again at Chantilly Blue Coffee Lounge in Kilcoy.

Great gift section as well as a cabinet of wonderful jewelery.

Our Jelly Roll group had to go back this year for our Christmas break up as we enjoyed it so much last year. Great staff and fantastic food made for another enjoyable day.

We enjoyed a secret Santa and my gift was this lovely bag. I should not know who made it but I do as I had remarked on the bag at another meeting and I was told it was a make it in an hour bag. Ofcoure I had to look it up on the Internet and yes there was the pattern. I was delighted with the bag and now I don't have to make one for myself.

Don't you just love this art work on the ceiling.

Can't sleep

I have just taught a Chenille class on learningfa. I am happy with the online class and enjoying writing the classes and looking forward to writing some more.
A few months ago I was asked if I would consider being part owner of the group. After thinking about it for a few days I decided to do it. A challenge but just what I needed to get me going again.

I made these little needle cases yesterday. A new technique using a serviette as the picture, medium and then stitching through it.

I am please with how these little cases turned out.

In the Pink is a small a quilt I made a while back but I did not like the beading I had on it. I have taken a lot off and think it looks much better. It is a picture fabric manipulation printed on silk.

My crochet and embroidered centres.

I have not been doing very much of my work the last month being away and everything else that happened.

I did manage to do some crocheting on two embroidered centres I made a few years ago.I had made three so now only one left to finish.

I had forgotten I had made them so was pleasantly surprised when I found then when cleaning out a cupboard.

I enjoyed doing the edges.

A new idea for a bag

I was given this as a late birthday present..lol I love it.

The bag is made out of the 6 pack bag you get from the bottle shop to carry your 6 bottles of wine home in.

My friend Lorraine took out the middle and covered the outside, added a strip to each handle, added a button and loop. It is just the right size.

Halloween coming up ladies

I had another wonderful day teaching the ladies in Gin Gin my Flowers in the Sunshine Class. Sue also brought along her finished quilt from the last class.

I can live with reflux

I am just back from having my endoscopy and so relieved that all is ok. Still waiting for the biopsy but I am feeling so much better knowing. I have not been able to focus but now am off to do some creating in the studio.

Lake Monduran

The bass my husband caught not quilt large enough for the prize but it will be nice for dinner.

Looking down the dam from the wall and then looking the other side. I think either could make a nice quilt.

My husband caught a nice bass today but not sure if it is large enough to get a prize as a few were caught this morning. Only 3 barramundi I believe were caught and the same guy who caught the biggest yesterday has caught the one today. A nice prize for him.$1000 prize as well as the daily prizes. Of course my husband is hoping his ticket will be drawn out for the new boat draw and it would be nice.

I have been felting on the machine and hope to have a nice shawl ready to ware to a wedding on Saturday night. I love what the machine does but it is a bit boring just running threads down to felt together. Still a lot faster then knitting, crochet or felting the old way.

Here I am up in sunny North Queensland. Sunny! hay it's been raining just about ever day since I have been here. It is the wettest September in 40 years.
Last Friday Carol took me to a gallery show at the Perc Tucker Regional Gallery in Townsville.

A little about the show and the group

TOTEMS - A SYMBOLIC REPRESENTATION OF A GROUP
FIBRES AND FABRICS ASSOCIATION INC.
17 September until 17 October

A lot has changed since 1975. This was the year the Fibres and Fabrics Assoc. Inc was formed after an advertisement was placed in the Townsville Bulletin by June Oliver calling a meeting to gauge the interest in fibre arts in Townsville. Having been rejected after entering an art exhibition with her craft skills, Oliver sought out like-minded people with similarly impressive skills. About 20 people attended this first meeting at the Townsville Arts Centre on March 19, and it was decided to form a fibre craft group.

This exhibition, titled Totems – a symbolic representation of a group showcases the variety of textile arts that are currently being practised in Australia. The theme for the exhibition was chosen to encourage members to look into their ideas, feelings and personal circumstances and reflect them in their work.

I was very impress with the work of the group (I am a member but did not exhibit).

DOG HAIR SCAFF

I have had to add this as someone sent me an email horrified to think the dog was sheared to get the wool. I could not believe someone would actually think this when dogs shed so much hair.
The hair is what was brushed out of the dog during the brushing sessions. Years of brushing and keeping.

I keeped my poole hair years ago but did not know a spinner. If it was today I would have it spun as I feel it is a lovely reminder of a loved aminal. Saying this I know we all have different views on things.

Hello I have a real treat for you today.

A scarf knitted by my friend Margaret Johnson but the big difference is that it is knitted out of Afghan dog hair. The hair was spun and then given to Margaret who knitted this lovely scarf.

The scarf is soft and not scratchy. It is natural colour and comes from two dogs.

I have been doing some confetti work not quite finished the scene but it is starting to look ok.

Bear Dolls and Postcards

These are some of the bears I have been making as well as the door stop bears. I have enjoyed making them. If it was not for my friend Margot I would not have made them. She is a fantastic teacher. The middle size on in the set of 3 was laying around for about 17 years partly make. I had started him by hand pulled out and machined and she insisted I pull out and do it by hand and I did and he is so happy now.

A set of post cards I finished today for a swap.

A Bear and old pal Reunion and Father's Day

A friend from school was up last weekend. One of the guys put together a night with a days notice. It was great to see the old friends together. Some had not seen my friend for over 25 years.

Father's Day at my sister's. Myself with my nephew and his girlfriend.

I have been making a couple of bears for bedroom door stops. This is the first will post the others when I take pictures. I love these little pets but really enjoy doing other things. I have also made a couple of dolls will post them later as well.

Hello a beautiful Day for the third day of Spring

I have now added some beading to the bag. I am not sure how I will finish it off yet.

Today I made a lipstick container (2 lipsticks) I have to get a mirror to fit it somewhere.

It matches my mobile case I made ages ago. I think it needs a wash looking at the picture here.

I have also done quilt a lot of work on little quilts but forgot to take pictures so that will have to be tomorrow.

I started on the post card swap for Canada today. Pleased with what I am doing again forgot to take pictures...lol Well I am blonde.

A visit to my Sisters.

I was at my sisters last week and took these pictures of her garden. Look at the King orchard. Six big clusters of flowers. It is just magnificent. Her little round garden looks so bright with the paper daises. I have never been able to grow them. What is the secret Dawn?

It is Fathers day this Sunday and we are having it at her home. It will be so nice with all the flowers in bloom.

I have been making another bag like the bright fun one I posted a couple of weeks ago. This one will be a more glamorous one.

Last day of the Month

Well where has winter gone but it seems to be still here again this last week with night temperatures down to 7 again.

I guess before long I will be wishing for the cold weather again.

I have been working on a few projects the last few days.

I have knitted a scarf - I know winter over and decide to knit now. Must have been the cold change. It is a nice deep red with sequins through the wool. Really sparkles when it is in the sun.

This curved pipped runner is for my daughter and I will take it with me when I go up to see her next month.

I have made a chenille piece and want to make it into a little bag.

I love the way this sun dyed piece has turned out and now I have machine thread painted it. It will be make into a wall hanging.

I don't know why this is in blue and underlined. I have been trying to change it. I can the colour but not the underlining.

Classes at Peachester and Palmwoods

The happy ladies at Palmwoods when I showed them how to do this curved pieced block with piping. We had heaps of laughs and a bit of unpicking. Don't we all. At first they were just going to make a block but then they all decide to make four blocks and make a bag. I am pleased as I showed them a really quick way of making this block.

The black block was fussy cut and turned out quilt different.

These happy people here were in my quilt as you go class. Some thinking going on in this one as they had to concentrate on what they were doing in some of the techniques. I love quilt as you go and I think I gave the ladies some ideas of what they can do instead of sending the quilts out to a longarm quilter.

The two Daryl's 50th

Here we are at a couple of 5oth parties.

How lovely to enjoy time with our friends as they made the big numbers in their lives.

My husband usually cooks a spit for the parties. He is the best spit roast cook you could imagine. Once we had a catering business and I often wonder if he misses it as much as I do.

I have been working on another bag in browns. It is looking really lovely and tomorrow and the next day I hope to get the beads on it. This time it will be a clutch bag. I will post when it is done.

We are going to see my 80 year old uncle tomorrow at Gatton. I have not seen them for a while and really looking forward to the trip.

Margot looks great in with her bears. She is so talented in the making of dolls and bears. I want to cuddle all the bears.

Palmwoods turned on the hospitality for the visitors with there lovely morning teas and lunches. These were provided but the Bowls Club ladies.

A beautiful Azalea and my garden

This year I have decided to garden in boxes and so far they are doing really well.

Have you ever seen an udder plant. Very unusual.

This is the lovely Azalea that is at our front door. It was given to me about 4 years ago but this year it is just full of flowers.

Today I sun dyed again and my back is killing me from bending over. Tomorrow off the the 3 day course with Ken Smith at Bribie Island.

I am so excited I have been accepted in to Ken Smith's embroidery 3 day class on Bribie Island. It is next Monday to Wednesday. Late notice so it is all systems go to find the items I need to take for the classes and a motel or unit to stay over there. I have a friend who is also going and we are going to share. She was going to drive home each day but now I am going it is working our a lot better.

Today I have had fun sun dying fabric. I will be doing more in the next 3 days to get ready of a

Quiltfest in Palmwoods. It is the first they have had and everyone is working hard to make it a great success. It will be held on the 31st July and 1st of Aug. More on the later.

Busy days inktense pencils and more

Who's a Pretty Boy

This is my bird I painted and then stitched to make a motif of him. Yesterday I quilted the sun dyed piece of fabric I had ear marked for this project and put the bird on to it. I was happy with the finished item.

Birds on my front terrace. Yes the birds are the ones in the above quilt.

Hubby went fishing and now our friends and us have fish for a few weeks. A good catch. It has been a while since he has caught such a good catch.

These pencils go on like a pencil but once wet they act like a paint. I think you could get some very good techniques using them.

Inktense pencils I think there is a place for them in my work but you have to be careful as if you use water they run and run.(if you use to much) as you can see. In some places I like the look but sometimes you don't want the run.

If you use a medium painted on the fabric first I found it did not run. I love the way the colours mix with each other. I used different techniques.

1.Pencil straight on to material, then with water I mixed the colour.

2. Pencil dipped into medium and this mixed the colour.

3. Painted the material first with medium then pencil in and or used water or medium. Each way gave a different result but all ok.

I still have to iron these pieces to set them. I do think the medium would help to keep the colour also but that is just my thought.

I then penciled in a chicken and made it into a little quilt.

Leone and I finished the top .

Leone and I finished the top of this quilt yesterday. This quilt is for a lady whose husband passed away about 2 years ago.

The quilt is made with her husband’s shirts and some fabric that was donated for the project. My friend Margaret embodied the centre panel. Some out our Fat quarter group helped with the next two strips and Leonie and I finished the last two off yesterday. Leonie Gittens offered to digitized the beer embroidery block as I could not find one anywhere and Lyn Hallam did the four embroideries.

I spent another 3 hours pulling some of the last row strips out as there were a few too many dark or light ones in two of the strips. I will post another picture when I take it.

We had fun yesterday finishing the quilt off and now I can concentrate on some of my work today. I wonder what I will do.

Textile Show Brisbane

I had a fantastic day yesterday with my two friends Margot and Bonnie. Of course we look at different things so we went separate ways and met up every hour or so.

I met Margaret the lady who made my NZ/Australia Art swap. It was lovely to met and talk with her.

The quilts challenges there were just amazing and I could go back today and take another look. I took quite a few pictures. Such talent we have.

I had a chat with Brenda Smith (Twelve by Twelve) Lisa Walton ,Judy Hall and missed Cecile Watman. She would have been busy at this how with the teaching. Of course my friend Martin Wrigh at Aussie Patches.

Dale from The Thread Studio showed some very interesting ideas and projects.

It was so busy every where you looked something else to see. I am sure I did not see everything and if I had the time I would have gone back today.

I did not do any workshops but would have loved to. You either go to do workshops or to look just not enough time to do it all in a day. I think I could have gone every day and will think about that for next year.

Knitting and crochet seem to have taken over the craft world with so much wool and threads on sale. I have to add that the prices were very expensive. Of course I had to buy a few special ones for my work.

Workshop today at Palmwoods - Discharge Dyieng

I had a wonderful day at Palmwoods Textile Group today. We played around with discharge dyeing. I had black, maroon and dark green fabric. Someone gave me a pieces of purple. For some reason the dark green came out a blue colour.

I had always wanted to try this out but never got around to it. I can see so many possibilities with stamping, stenciling, brushing, sponging and using a needle or fine paint brush. It was a mess around day today but soon I will try something a bit different and more precise.

What do you think of my pieces? I enjoyed the day so much.

It is so easy this way and I made a bag out of my pieces. I can see it could be used in many ways and with different curves.

Hello to you all

I had a very busy day. First of all I had a group the Stitch and Bitches over and then about 2.30pm I got a phone call asking if I would judge a quilt show. When in a couple of hours time. The judges who were to do this work could not at the last minute. I did not think I had the time to get ready and meet Martin (the other judge) but the girls all agreed that I should go. So quick change and off I went.

We looked at the quilts in detail and it was hard to make the decision in some cases but when we looked at basic quilting techniques it was an easy choice.

Some of the quilts had some of the best hand applique I have ever seen.

We must have done a good job as they asked if we would do it again next year.

I really enjoyed this experience.

We had a fantastic quilt show this year. I think this one topped them all.
Record numbers passed through the door. I am not sure if they came for the show or the food. We have a very good reputation for the food. Good old fashion home cooking.People came by the bus load.

We had 12 trader attend and they appeared to be doing good business with the quilters.

Finally Back

I am back and don't know where to start my posting.

I had another operation last Monday and hopefully now all will be right and I can resume my life the way I like it.

I think I will start with the Townsville trip.

Lily into my lip gloss. Of course I had to leave it there with her but she is not allowed it unless she asks for it and then used it and gives it back to her mother. That was that rule I made with me and she did not object and she used to paint her brothers lips with it. So cute

Jack out to lunch on Mother's Day. It was my daughters birthday as well.

We are at the Queens Park having a picnic.

My grandchildren kept me going up there. I had forgotten just how much energy a two and three year old had. What had to be done to keep them amused. Lots of painting, glueing, walking each day down the back yard to tell stories about the fairies that live in the gum trees there.

Pushing them around on the bikes. Of course they worked but they liked Nanny Darl (as the call me) to push them and of course getting the meals ready at night for them so they could be in bed early. It was just lovely to wake up in the morning with two little faces looking at me saying Nanny are you awake. I would pretend to still be sleeping and they would then jump all over me.

Hi All

I am in Townsville and have recovered well. I will be operated on again on the 24th of May. After that all systems go as I have a bit of catching up to do.

I have taken pictures up here but forgot to bring my camera to computer lead with me. When I get home I will post some pictures of my lovely grandchildren.

I have just about finished my project for a challenge.

I will be teaching at Fibre Arts on Thursday and really looking forward to it.

The group of ladies are just lovely. I had a great time with them last Wednesday. My daughter's friend took me along to two gallery's and we looked at some wonderful work.

Off to do a bit more work on my challenge now while the kids are out.

Retreat with the Palmwoods Art Girls

Embelishing Machine

Hello to you all.

I have been having a play on the felting machine. I do apologise for the pictures. My camera will not work tonight so I have to use my husbands and I don't think the pictures are that good.

When I get my camera working I will repost.

Synthetic Wool felted on to black background.

Material rose and leaves felted into black background.

2 pieces of cut flower shapes and then one of organza felted in the middle with a wool centre felted on to the centre. The organza stands up and looks quite nice.

Threads crossed hatched.

I also made some wool flowers but they are in the studio so will post later.

Embelishing Machine

Hi Girls

I am quite excited as I have just purchased an embellishing machine.

Tonight I will be giving it a work out.

I brought a Janome and I know if you break a needle you have to replace the whole section but it will work with 5,4,3,2,1 needles if you have to or until you get a new set. You can now buy a set that when one breaks you can replace each needle like the other brands. That is what I will do when I have to replace the needles.

I am so happy as I got this machine for a great bargain of $299. I have viewed these machines on the Internet for $399.

Off to Retreat

Easter over

Easter is over and we had a lovely one. Sunday spent at my sister's with family. A good day with company and food.

I have just about finished the new curtains for the caravan. What a job? If I would have realized I would not have started them. Too many other things I want to do.

Speaking of food. I found this recipe for home made condensed milk. I don't think I will ever buy it again as this tastes as good as the tin one. I make a jelly slice and a weekbix slice with this recipe and no on could taste the difference.

Sweetened Condensed Milk

Servings 4
Recipe Yield 2.25 cups

Ingredients
• 3/4 cup boiling water
• 6 tablespoons butter
• 1 cup white sugar
• 2 2/3 cups nonfat dry milk powder

(I used skim milk powder. Apparently if you use a powder sweetener it comes out just as nice).

Directions
1. Combine water, butter, sugar and milk powder in a blender and blend until thickened, 2 minutes. Store in refrigerator.

Jelly Slice

Top Layer:
1 pack raspberry gelatin
1-1/2 cups boiling water

Base:
1 pack Marie biscuits

1/4 lb. melted butter

Middle Layer:
1 can condensed milk
2 lemons, juiced
1 tbsp plain gelatin
1 cup boiling water
Dissolve raspberry gelatin in water. Let cool. Crush Marie biscuits and mix together with butter, press into a 9x9" glass baking pan and put in fridge until set (5-10 minutes). Dissolve gelatin in water and add to condensed milk. Mix gently. Add to base once it is set. Put back into fridge. Once the condensed milk layer is firm, gently spoon the raspberry gelatin on top so as not to disturb the other layers. Allow to set firm in fridge, then cut into 2" squares. For best flavor, let set in fridge overnight (if you can get it to last that long!)

Weet-Bix Slice

Prep time 15 minutes or less

Ingredients:
1/2 x 410g can of condensed milk (use more if the mixture is dry)
10 to 12 crushed weetbix

125g butter
1/2 cup coconut
1 tblsp cocoa
1 cup mixed dried fruit and nuts - I used Crasins

Icing:
1 tblsp butter
1 tblsp cocoa
1.5 cups icing sugar
1-2 teaspoons boiling water
(alt. icing lemon icing)
Melt butter then add condensed milk, stir to combine.
In another bowl add rest of ingredients and mix well. Pour over butter mixture and combine well. Press into slice tin lined with baking paper.
Combine all icing ingredients together and spread over the slice. Refrigerate.

My sewing yesterday

Today I thread painted the parrot but I am now thinking I did too much work on him. I think I will put him on this piece of sun dried fabric.

Sample of the free embroidery using the old Universal machine.

The light one is the front and the black the back of the sample. I am very pleased with the old machine and today it received an oil. My gosh is it going a lot better. Instead of sounding like a chaff cutter it is puring. I will still take it for a service after Easter.
Today I am planning on finishing my Seminole (a class from learningfa) and then start on the new curtains for the caravan.

This will be the first time in many years we are not going away for Easter as it is far to wet where we camp.
I am going to really enjoy being home and Sew Sew Sew.

Manipulations

I have been working with GIMP2 again tonight and this is what I came up with.

The photo on the left is what the second one started out as. As you can see you would have no idea from the end result that it was once the photo on the left.

I have added some extra colours and then just manipulated and used the tools in the program until I liked the design.

It is fun to do but I tend to spend to much time on these pieces. I love it.

Painting workshop with Bernadine Hine

Hi All

Last week I was able to do a painting workshop with Bernadine Hine.

I don't say that I did it right but am on my way and after the flowers and bird are put into a quit and have some machine quilting added to them they should look OK.

Tomorrow I am planning on sewing most of the day.

I am been a bit upset one of my Pfaff machines went in for a service as I thought I had pulled the timing out. The repair man rang and said the clogs that control the dogs were worn out and would cost $400 for a new set and with the service $500. I asked was it worth it and he said no as if anything else went it was not replaceable. I am really annoyed. It is a 15 years old machine but cost $3,500 back then. I expected it to last 30 years or at least the parts be available. I have a Pfaff embroidery machine and it has already had a mother board ($1000) replaced under warranty. (4 years old) I asked if the parts for it would be available in 10 years time and he said he did not think so. Two expensive machine that I expected to last for many years.

My other Pfaff a 1222E is over 30 years old. He told me the parts will still be around in 10 years time and not to ever sell it.

I am thinking that the older machines are the ones to have.

When I buy another new machine it is going to be a Benina. I have been researching machines and their service and availability and they seem to be the best backup for service and parts being available for older machines.
